Truth or dare...or TKO?
When Lacey Garrity finds her groom in flagrante delicto in the reception hall closet with her bridesmaid, she's saved by her best friend’s older brother—childhood tormentor, crush, and boxing bad boy Galen Thomas. Galen’s solution is both exciting and dangerous. What better way to forget the mess of her life than go on her honeymoon with a hot guy who can’t promise anything beyond today?
Galen had been counting on Lacey's wedding to put her out of reach—and out of his mind—once and for all, but their steamy Puerto Rican escape is testing all his boundaries. Now that Lacey’s embracing her inner bad girl, Galen is tempted to throw in the towel and claim her for himself. But with the biggest fight of his career on the line and an important business merger threatening to derail Lacey’s resolve, their romance might be down for the count before it even begins.
I picked up this copy of Down for the Count in November 2014 so this book has been on Mt. TBR for one year, eight months. Down for the Count qualifies for my “The Mt. TBR Struggle is Real” challenge!!! Down for the Count also qualifies for my 2016 Kindle Freebie Freakout challenge since I received this copy free.
Down for the Count is a pretty cute and sweet friends to lovers story. It’s also a “my best friend’s brother” story but that is not a big plot line here nor is it a point of conflict. I just wanted to point that fact out for readers who like that plotline.
Down for the Count starts with the heroine, Lacey, finding her new groom banging one of her oldest friends before she could even toss the bouquet. Lacey tearfully confides in long time friends (brother and sister) Cat (bff) and Galen. Cat heads off the wedding party to allow Lacey to escape.
Galen and Lacey get drunk and then decide to go on the honeymoon. While away in beautiful PR, Lacey admits to herself that she was still crushing/in love with Galen and has been since they were kids.
There’s really not a lot to Down for the Count – both Lacey and Galen admit how they feel (eventually) with sister/BFF Cat cheering them on. While Down for the Count was entertaining, there wasn’t a lot going on and no real tension so…I was kinda bored.
