Evil shadow ghosts known as soul collectors haunted her childhood nightmares, so Nashville PD criminal profiler Jillian Drew did everything possible to turn her back on her psychic abilities. But now her eccentric sister has been abducted and nothing in her criminology background has prepared Jillian for that tragedy-or for Benton Smith, the powerful and devastatingly attractive ghost of a Civil War officer and the only witness to Amy’s abduction. Fearful of the brazen specter, Jillian nevertheless needs him. Benton is her Gatekeeper, a spirit sworn to protect her from the soul collectors, who attack each time she unleashes her long-dormant psychic senses in an attempt to find her sister. Yet she must somehow keep the devilishly seductive spirit at arm’s length, for Benton’s soul is at stake-and succumbing to his desires could have dangerous consequences for them both.
OMFG. This. This shit right here. I can’t even…WTF.
So, let me get this straight. Psychic woman falls in love and has sex with earth bound ghost.
WTF. I can’t even figure it out cause it’s just stupid.
There are SO MANY spoilers ahead. Just don’t read this, lol.
So…the heroine’s sister started dating the son of the heroine’s co-worker. During one of the dates it was discovered that the psychic sister (Amy) was about to help a earthbound ghost that is attached to a button go to heaven. That sister is then captured and BURIED ALIVE for some freaking reason. The heroine (Jillian) finds & saves her and then the hunt is on.
It turns out that the ghost Amy was going to release to the light is Benton, the hero. He was a civil war hero who was killed by a fellow officer because [the officer, Bruce] was jealous of him. Bruce was jealous of Benton because Benton was young and poor but had managed to become a higher ranked officer and get engaged with the most beautiful girl in town. *le sigh* Benton becomes a ghost. I still haven’t figured out the freaking gatekeeper part.
Benton’s fiancée ended up married to Bruce because she didn’t want Benton to stay in the army. She was a physic as well and saw his death – and she had a miscarriage based on the vision. Benton told her he wouldn’t leave the army so she gets mad and tells him she will marry his murderer if he leaves – and she does. The fiancée (Hattie) then blames Benton for all the ills of the rest of her life. She says she was ridiculed because everyone knew he’d had sex with her; Bruce hated her because she loved Benton; Bruce gave her the pox and she got sick; she was committed and it was filthy and the impression was given that she was raped by the caretakers.
So. Benton must be responsible for all the bad decisions that other people made. WTF.
Jillian finds out that her (female) co-worker is the reincarnation of Bruce. She also figures out that the co-worker’s son is the reincarnation of Hattie. And that both Hattie and Bruce have teamed up to make sure Benton can’t go to heaven cause they are angry. WTF. Seriously??! And how freaking gross is it for a husband/wife pair to come back as mother/son?? So these people go on a rampage and kill a couple of people in order to make sure that a ghost can’t get to heaven…
…and I STILL don’t get the point of trying to bury someone alive. What’s the fucking point?? They could have just taken the freaking button? Shit. If they had to kill her…why not just kill her?
And all over someone who was already dead.
This shit right here. Grrrr.
Oh! Sex, sex, sex, fight, sex, fight…the end. Hero gets sent back from heaven as an alive person.
