My husband and I recently threw a very large BBQ. When buying alcohol for our BBQs, we always buy both regular and flavored vodkas. This time, our local liquor store only had 1 bottle of Pineapple Cîroc. Instead of leaving (for a better stocked store, we (well, I) allowed the store manager to talk us into trying a “new” pineapple flavored vodka: Veil.
The manager gave us the hard sell: He compared the Veil to Cîroc: [in comparison] the manager told us that the Veil was a better-quality vodka with superior taste, smoothness and distilling. He praised Veil so much that we bought it.
The Pineapple Veil was opened at the BBQ but we didn’t get a chance to taste it until much later (after the BBQ). Strangely, by the end of the BBQ the Veil was still basically a full bottle. The Cîroc, on the other hand, was completely consumed.
Hubby and I learned that everyone who tried the Veil hated it. When hubby and I tasted the Veil ourselves, we totally understood why there was a full bottle left: it tastes sweet but medicinal.
Since the BBQ, hubby and I have tried everything to make this drink more palatable. We’ve tried it mixed with lemonade, with [clear] sodas, just water, and straight. Didn’t matter. No matter what we do, it still tastes like medicine.
I’ve tossed so many drinks away lately – and it bothers me greatly. I HATE wasting things (like my money and liquor).
Lesson learned. 🙁
